A night in Denver

What started out as a fun little trip to Robert's company Christmas party in Denver, CO turned out to be quite an adventure. We were scheduled to leave Kansas City on Fri at 12:04pm, well we ran into construction on the way to the airport and one thing lead to another and our first plane left without us. We could have made the plane but our luggage couldn't. If you know us very well you know that we are almost never late so this was not the norm for us. We got booked onto the next available flight at 4:00pm and proceeded to security where the whole family got the pat down and luggage search. Robert is always a bit nervous about security being that he works around explosive propellant residue 5 days a week and it's bound to be all over his coat and clothes, but we managed to get cleared for our flight and we went and settled into our cozy airport seats for the next 4 hours, with 2 kids and no extra bottle for the baby. The kids were really good while we waited and I came up with a solution so that Jake would not starve. We took off on our 4pm flight and hoped Jake's first flight would go well. He did pretty good, very squirmy but no crying so that was great. On the plane me and Robert kept counting in our heads and wondering if we were even going to be able to make it to the party that was the whole reason for the trip. Well long story short we made it late but we made it. Our friends that live in the Denver area had arranged for a babysitter for the kids, which had been a worry of mine all week. I knew the babysitter would do great I just wasn't sure how I would do. This was the first time I left Jake with anyone other than family. He was crying his head off when we left but they said that he settled down and was just fine. Cody had a blast. The family that was watching them had a Wii and they said Cody had so much fun playing that. When we dropped the kids off we were running so behind that we had to change our clothes at the babysitters house, they were so nice about it and we came back downstairs and Cody said "What are you guys still doing here?" So we made it to the party and had a wonderful delicious dinner and met some people that Robert had never met before and talked with many that he had. At the airport during our 4 hour wait, the kids were very good, it was us parents that had a hard time waiting.

At the Country Club

Ok so these pictures of Jake are on the flight home. The flight home went really well. I fed Jake right when we took off and he fell asleep for most of the flight. When he woke up I put him in the empty seat next to me and thought this was too funny so we took a couple of pictures. Jake the traveling fool!!

We actually learned a lot this trip and will now be better prepared for the trip to Utah next week. We didn't even want to think about going back to the airport but we love our family so we will. I'm sure the more we travel the easier it will be, right!? We are excited to see all our friends and family next week even if it means going back to the airport!

Standing Tall

Just thought I would post a few fun pictures of our new stander. He thinks it's pretty fun to just stand at the edge of the couch and talk to you, he's goofy that's for sure, I guess he fits in just perfect here then. First time standing

Thanksgiving weekend

This year was our first Thanksgiving away from family. I was a bit worried about making a Turkey but Robert actually took over and made, no lie, the best turkey I have ever ate, it was delicious! Robert told Cody that it was made with love so he had to try some, he had been telling us all day that he was not going to eat any turkey but we managed to bribe him into taking a couple of bites. He was so funny and made a gagging face and chased it with juice but then 2 seconds later said that it was good and that he could taste the love. We also started a tradition of having a Thanksgiving watermelon, we just saw it at the store while we were shopping and Cody had to have it so we incorporated it into our menu. Jake decided that he needed a nap right before we ate so he got to try some turkey when he woke up and he loved it!
Cody was so antsy to get the Christmas decorations out so we put the tree up a little early this year and put Cody's little one up in his room too. He had fun decorating. I gave him much more creative freedom on the one in his room, he did it all by himself, as you can tell because it's a bit bottom heavy. We have our tree in the family room in a corner and then we have a pillow barricade in attempts to keep Jake away from it. He has gotten pretty good at climbing the wall of pillows in hopes of grabbing a ornament though.
All in all it was a great weekend and whether the potato's and stuffing came from a box or from scratch we enjoyed every bite! Happy Thanksgiving!

Well it's offical, Jake has started crawling! He finally figured out that his knee's would make him go faster on the 21st, exactly 7 months old and Robert's birthday. Man oh Man he is fast now. He is getting himself into some intresting places. The 2nd picture is what we like to call Baby Jail, he gets under the chair and can't find his way out so he gnaws on the bars for a while and then want's help out. Way to go Jake and people start baby proofing your house if we are visiting you over christmas!

Robert's Birthday

Last Friday was Robert's birthday and fun was had by all, as you can clearly see by the pictures. We went out to eat and then had cake. Happy Birthday honey, I hope we made the day a special one for you. I know it wasn't as exciting as Cody's birthday at Chuck E Cheese's but birthday's are a little less exciting the older you get!

First NFL Game

Well the birthday weekend of fun continued on Sunday when Robert and Cody went to their very first NFL game. It was a Chiefs game in Kansas City. They were playing the New Orleans Saints. The Chiefs are not having a great season and it continued with this game that they lost, sorry I don't know the ending score. Robert said that Cody did really good and seemed to really enjoy himself. It was a cold day so they left early but now they both have a great memory of their first game together! What a lucky kid that Cody is!

Happy 4th Birthday Cody!

Well another year has come and gone and Cody is now 4 years old. No matter what I do to try to keep him from growing up, nothing is working and he continues to get older. We have had a very fun birthday weekend so far. Cody's birthday was on Friday the 14th and we made cupcakes to take to his class at school, he said he had a great day at school and his teacher even made him a crown so he could be a birthday prince. Friday night we opened presents, too many, he was spoiled as usual, and then he got to choose where we went to eat. He chose Red Robin and they completely embarrassed him by making him put balloons under his chin and behind his ears while they sang to him, I about peed my pants I was laughing so hard, there is a pic in the slide show of the look on his face, it was priceless. He got a ice cream sunday out of it though so he was ok with it. Today we had his birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese's. We invited a couple of his friends and we all had a blast. It was a bit of a sensory overload for me and I think Jake too but fun was had by all, the kids played and played, ate pizza, cake and played some more. I am about ready to fall over from all the fun had in the last couple of days but Cody said it was the best birthday ever so I guess it was all worth it!! He is such a sweet little boy and is turning into a little man everyday, we love you little Cody man and we always will. Happy Birthday big boy!

Jake's first tooth

Jakers first tooth popped through today. I have very mixed feelings about it. I was so excited when I felt it but at the same time sad because my baby is growing up way too fast! Cody was very excited to wash his hands so he could feel it too. My boys are growing so fast I can't even believe it. I am trying to stop and enjoy every stage of their lives but life it just going so fast latley. I use to be so excited for them to grow up but latley I have really wanted to freeze them just how they are, soon Robert will be trying to kick them out of the house and I will be crying while watching them go off to college. I guess that is a while off, I will just enjoy them while I can cuddle and smooch them with out any complaints!

Happy 1/2 Birthday Jake

Well I am a little late getting this posted but we just wanted to tell Jake Happy 1/2 Birthday! I can't believe he is 6 months old already, time really does fly! He is such a sweet little guy. At his 6 month check-up he weighed 15 pounds 9 ounces and was 26 1/2 inches. He is already wearing a few 9 month outfits and jammies. He is so close to crawling and can get around very well by doing his inchworm move. He loves to just roll and scoot around the floor and does that most of the day. He is working on sitting up on his own but usually just rolls himself onto his tummy. He is a very loud squealer. He squeals in delight quite a bit and I think he tries to be as loud as he can. He is a wonderful sleeper, which I am very grateful for, someone up there knows me very well and has blessed me with two very good sleepers. He loves his big brother and the dogs, if it were up to him he would rather the dogs lick his face clean after lunch then mom coming at him with the wash cloth. He also loves stroller rides and happily rides for as long as you push him. He hates to wait for his bottle, if he sees it you better have it in his mouth within seconds or you'll hear about it. All in all Jake is one happy little guy and we are glad to have him around!

Pumpkin Carving

We pride ourselves on being pretty decent pumpkin carvers. This year we had a hard time getting our pumpkins to cooperate with us but I still think they turned out pretty good. I carved the vampire Mickey for Jake and the wolf one is mine, I chose a vampire and a wolf to go with my obsession to the Twilight books. Robert carved Buzz lightyear, which was a tough one, for Cody and the spider one was his. The little pumpkin that is just a plain old jack o lantern is Cody's that he picked while on a field trip with his school and he say's it's his favorite, so much for killing ourselves over the buzz lightyear but oh well. This was the first year that Cody has gutted a pumpkin himself, he usually say's that it is too groose and he did say that this year too but he also thought it was kind of fun. You will notice that Jake is not in any of the pictures. He gets a bit cranky around 7 o clock and goes to bed shortly there after so he was in sleepy land for most of our pumpkin carving experience, I'm sure he will be right in the middle of everything next year though!

Trunk Or Treat

Well it's taken me a little while to get this posted but last weekend we went to our first ever trunk or treat, I know amazing that we came from Utah and had never been to a trunk or treat before. This was the ward halloween party/trunk or treat. We all had a great time and Cody loved getting a jump start on the whole trick or treating thing. He is still looking forward to Friday night but he had lots of fun at the ward party.

Pumpkin Patch

Our little town here in KS has it's own pumpkin patch that we decided to try out this weekend. Wow it was so crowded, I think everyone in town had the same idea. We still had fun though. Cody rode the zip line, which he loved, I stood by gasping but he held on and had fun. We went out to the pumpkin field and tryed to find the perfect pumpkins, and Jake napped through most of it. We are very excited to carve our pumpkins this year, that is one of our favorite things to do for halloween.

Maple Leaf Festival

This weekend we did lots of fun things. We started off the weekend by going to the Maple Leaf Festival in Baldwin, KS. It was packed and there was a lot to see. The streets are lined with craft booths and more craft booths, so needless to say I was having a great time. Cody hung in there while we made our way through craft city to the carnival. He had a great time riding all the rides. His favorite by far was the big slide, he rode that 3 times. I thought the little mini tidal wave was adorable and I made sure to tell him to get the seat all the way at the back, I wanted him to get his full ride experience. Jake had a nice stroller ride and babbled to all the people that would look at him. It was a fun day at the festival and I am sure we will go again next year.

I take so many cute pictures of the boys that it's really a waste not to share them so I updated the slide show that is usually at the bottom of the page and put it here for you all to enjoy! They are getting so big I can hardly believe it.
